The great Bobby Fischer once said that "Chess is life". Perhaps, what he means is that Chess is his life considering the time he devoted to the game. Chess could really be his life.
Fischer is not the only one who considers chess as life itself. I know several chess players whose life revolves around the sixty-four squares. You can find them at Burnham in Baguio City or at Luneta in Manila, and you find them at these chess parks anytime everyday.
But is Chess really life itself? For these chess players, I hope that it is not. Chess is destructive once it becomes an addiction. It will consume all your time. You miss a brilliant move or make a blunder in a game and this will haunt you for several days. You want to improve your game and you read several books and study hundreds of games. Then you will realize that you are failing in school or neglecting your work.
Chess is just a game, a sport, or a hobby. it is not supposed to be life itself.
